Lyrics
And so began the next chapter of Benjamin's life
On the 28th of February, 1958, at the age of thirty, Benjamin Button set off on a journey
A journey that would take him across the world
A journey that would last exactly five years, nine months, and twelve days
[Instrumental]
Rollin' away, my boys, cast your cares stern
At fourteen knots, you'll soon see what's to lose and what's to learn
Rollin' away, my boys, seek and ye shall find
But the findin' often comes at a cost of what we leave behind
[Instrumental]
He set off to London Town, my boys
Off to London Town
Where he found the fancy doctor
Physician to the crown
He told him of his plight, my boys
He told him of his curse
So you've come to me for a remedy to aging in reverse?
Ha
Rollin' away, my boys, rollin' off the shore
But you can't forget when you cast your net, what you best be lookin' for
Rollin' away, my boys, seek and ye shall find
And on and on he travelled, boys
With Cornwall far behind
As he sought a new solution
From a doctor of the mind
Who listened and replied, my boys
It's clear your sense of shame
Is the root of your confusion
This temporal delusion
And I've come to the conclusion
That your mother is to blame
Roll away
Across the seas and the land
Ever onward bound
To try to understand
You went the whole world 'round
And you roll away
Till you can't recall
Why you could not stay
Why you left at all
The years went rollin' by, my boys
As further did he roam
He searched across the world, my boys
And further from his home
For a method bold and new, my boys
It's quite unorthodox
We submit you to a treatment through intense electric shocks
So?
Roll away
From Zanzibar to Aberdeen
And everywhere fallin' in between
Not a healer in the world had seen
Such temporal regression (Roll away)
From the most renowned to the very least
From the western world to the distant east
Everywhere he went for a cure increased
The depth of his depression (Roll away)
Like a ship bein' tossed on the stormin' sea
Where the sound of the wind is a desperate plea
Not a soul in sight or a hope that he
Might save himself from drownin' (Roll away)
And the ship is breakin' apart I know
And the water's fillin' up the hull and so
The only way the ship can go is down
Roll away
Rollin' away, my boys, roaring through this way
With the ocean song, it take its toll, and you might have lose your way
Rollin' away, my boys, seek and ye shall find
But the findin' often comes at a cost of what we leave behind
[Instrumental]
Oh, he walked along the harbour, boys
In the cold New England rain
What do you want, kid?
I need to see the captain
Of the Josephine Tremaine
Walkin' up the gangway, boys
And through the wheelhouse door
Sit here while I find him
He sat in the seat assigned him
When he heard a voice behind him say
You worked at sea before?
Little Jack
