1998 gab die punkige Power Pop-Formation Bowling for Soup ihr erstes Gesamtalbum Rock on Honorable Ones!!! heraus, das ihr einen Vertrag mit Jive einbrachte. Für ihr Debüt bei dem großen Label im Jahr 2000 (Let's Do It for Johnny!) nahm Bowling for Soup einige ihrer besten Songs neu auf und fügte einige neue Nummern hinzu. Zwei Jahre später ergatterten sie eine Grammy-Nominierung für "Girl All the Bad Guys Want." Hangover You Don't Deserve folgte im Jahr 2004, und BFS hatte eine weitere Hit-Single mit "1985,", die Hangover auf Platz 37 der Billboard 200 katapultierte.
