Sum 41s Quasselmixtur aus Punk-Pop-Riffs, Hip-Hop-Posen und Gossenhumor verschaffte der Band aus dem kanadischen Ontario 1999 einen Vertrag mit Island. Das Ergebnis war die EP Half Hour of Power und das witzige Gesamtalbum All Killer No Filler. Die Singles "In Too Deep" und "Fat Lip" konnte man regelmäßig auf modernen Rocksendern hören und im Anschluss ging die Band auf eine ausgedehnte Tournee. 2002 kamen sie mit Does This Look Infected? zurück, auf das sich im Jahr 2004 das etwas gereiftere und ernsthaftere Chuck und im Jahr 2007 Underclass Hero anschlossen.
