Lyrics
In a large North Eastern city
Little Jimmy was on his way to school
And as he was crossing the street
A big truck ran the red light
Struck him down and dragged him about three blocks
Some nice people took him and rushed him to the hospital
Oh, he was in critical condition
They didn't think he'd make it an hour from the time he was there
Oh, they worked untirely with him all through the day
And when evening came
They put him in the critical condition room
There was another little boy that had also had an accident by the name of Michael
They were just ten years old
Classmates
And Michael said to Jimmy
Say, "You know, Jimmy, one day, Jesus is going to come and take us all to heaven
A place where there's plenty of good things to eat
Where nobody's sick
Where there's no fighting
No accidents, Jimmy
And everybody will be happy"
Jimmy said to Michael
"You know, Michael, I couldn't ask a kind gentleman like him to take me to heaven
Because I've been such a bad boy"
He said, "Oh, Jimmy, he'll do it for you"
He said, "You know, I only say every night when the lights are out
He comes around and he'd make hospital calls
And all you have to do is just hold up your hand"
So when they turned the lights out, Michael said to Jimmy, "Jimmy, it's about time
Just hold up your hand"
Jimmy was so weak
And every time he would try to raise up his hand, it would fall down
So Michael crawled out of his bed
Took the bedclothes and propped up Jimmy's arm
Where his hand would be in a held up position
Jimmy said to Michael, "Thank you, Michael
You think he'll see it?"
He said, "Oh, yes, he'll see it"
And all through the night
Michael would look over at Jimmy's arm and it was still held up
But when the morning came, they found nothing
Jimmy had passed
He died that night
But his hand was still in a held up position
You think Jesus understood?
I don't want to say, "Yes, he did, wouldn't you?"
Some of us here, maybe you have a problem
All you have to do tonight is just raise up your hand
Anybody sick, just raise up your hand
And while your hand is raised up, can you just stand to your feet?
Nobody ask you another question
Can you move out of the aisle and come forward?
Come to the altar, how about you?
Just run along and you're gone
Oh, just raise up your hand
Maybe you're in a sick room, just raise up your hand
Maybe you're looking and listening to this, just raise up your hand
Come on
