Sunshine

All the doctors called her Sunshine They kept her picture on the wall She turned 11 in September She was so brave to be so small She loved the colored leaves of autumn It was her favorite time of year She'd lie in bed and watch them falling Counting every moment dear Life is so much sweeter When you know it won't last long Don't wait to take a picture When the autumn leaves are gone Billy was her little brother He tried to be her Superman Though he could tell that she'd grown weaker Time was too hard to understand So Daddy pointed out the window As the tears fell from his eyes He said when the last leaf has fallen She'll be with Jesus in the sky He said life is so much sweeter When you know it won't last long Don't wait to take a picture When the autumn leaves are gone Billy couldn't sleep that evening If what his daddy said was true He could hardly wait 'til morning 'Cause he knew exactly what to do So he climbed the ladder to the treetop And reached as far as he could reach And with a smile, he started taping The few left hanging leaf by leaf And life is so much sweeter When you know it won't last long Don't wait to take a picture When the autumn leaves are gone One slow rain and the leaves are gone And all that remains are memories And sunshine All the doctors called her Sunshine They kept her picture on the wall She turned 11 in September She was so brave to be so small
