Elephant

I had no fun

And you forgot what I could not

Hindsight is twenty-twenty

And twenty-twenty was full of mistakes

Don't it feel great

Waiting on the back-burner for free

Only to perish at the sight of the snow

I'm a ferret on the side of the road

What I forgot is I am not immortal

And I've been half-full for a bit too long

And above my head was water damage

Below my feet were wilting leaves

And I seemed to be in a trance-like state

And my fugue state was going great

But hearts don't have to change

And what is left implodes at an accelerating rate

All of the things that made me someone burn away

Burn away

I can't cover my body in these shadows anymore

But they're pounding at the door with outstretched arms

My God I'm far too complicated

With phantom limb pain of the brain

It's the same death as yesterday

A daily dose of pain that isn't there

And no reason to be scared

I'm like an aging dog

And my ear canals are raw

This rapid expansion cuts off my hands

And it's all been a climb

Divine ascent

I'm innocently arrogant

The ferret didn't perish on the road

Now I wanna hold on

Stabbing in the dark until I hit my heart

I cherish every spark

But I don't wanna hold on

Everything looks different now

And my brain makes no connections

Elephant I had my fun

A slipping rope can make me go a long way

I can't cover my body with your shadows anymore

Cause somewhere there's a door

To a cabin of surrender

And it's trees won't grow at all until I have you in my dawn

You're waiting at the end of everything

For me to hold on

Hold on to unborn hands until I hold on

My heart claims barren land

And I can't hold on

And fall to death in darkness

I can hold on

Looser than I ever have before
