Lyrics

Something that It’s S’posed to Be
They brought back the Longhorn cattle
    after they’d gone nearly extinct.
They even brought back the bald eagles
when they were teetering right on the brink.
And there are grizzlies back in Yellowstone,
and they’re really something to see.
So why can’t we bring this country back
to something that it’s s’posed to be?
To where trying to love your neighbor
doesn’t stop at the churchhouse door
and kids don’t need an appointment
just to play with the kids next door.
Where everyone learns the same language
    from sea to shining sea.
Why can’t we bring this country back
to something that it’s s’posed to be?
Lowering standards and putting up walls.
Dividing instead of uniting us all.
My state’s a red one, and your state is blue
so I can’t have a real conversation with you.
A man who knows how to work with his hands
should stand on his own two feet.
And he shouldn’t have to work at two or three jobs
    trying to make ends meet.
And pain pills should be in the drugstores
and not everywhere on the street.
Why can’t we bring this country back
to something that it’s s’posed to be?
Lowering standards and putting up walls.
Dividing instead of uniting us all.
My state’s a red one, and your state is blue
so I can’t have a real conversation with you.
Well, I’m not the least bit nostalgic,
and I don’t want to turn back the clock.
I think that wherever a person comes from,
we all deserve the same shot.
And I think that it’s not just the markets
that are moved by fear and greed.
Why can’t we bring this country back
to something that it’s s’posed to be?
