For My Luck, I Suppose

Not sure what's my problem

I woke up today

 A cause for celebration'

I heard myself say

I looked round the kitchen

It's stocked and it's clean

Got a beautiful garden

food, flowers and green

The neighbors sent pie and a bowl of fresh fruit

I'm getting over what ailed me

Got an easy commute

There's a holiday coming

I'm partial to those

But I'm quiet - and tearful

For my luck I suppose

Have I told you I love you

If I haven't, it's so

The best part of my luck

Is the people I know

My friends and my neighbors

The truest of hearts

Generous, thoughtful

And kind, equal parts

My Mom was a cryer

My Dad rolled his eyes

I'm ashamed to admit

I'd avoid her goodbyes

She'd wave from the doorway

Trusting her tears

Oh, I wish I'd have held her

And said in her ears

Have I told you I love you

If I haven't, I do

Is this growing up stuff ever done, ever through

Will I know what I have

Before all of it's gone

Will I follow your lead?

Can I carry it on?

Have I told you I love you

If I haven't it's so

The best part of my luck is the people I know

So heck yeah, I'm tearful

It's right and it's good

Taking nothing for granted

And I'm knockin' on wood
