Hope is not like a flower, joy is not in the air

Love is never a cloudless sky, or climbing an unbroken stair

Hate is not like a shadow, sadness not like the rain

Despair can hide behind any smile, any melodious refrain

We have been hiding, waiting, waiting

We have been craving safety once again

Hope is not the sun, hope is the memory of the sun

Joy is not a smile, joy is the expectation of a smile

And love is not the embrace, it's waiting for the embrace

And the best thing I can do through this hard life is remember your face

And you are the light that will light my night

And you are the song that I sing to keep my hope alive

And I won't forget the moment when I last held your hand

When I look through your eyes, I see what you see, it makes me a better man

You are the voice in my soul, and the beat that times my days

You're the sun that shines above my head, you're the song that I sing to end my day

And I want to be the me that's mostly you

I want to be the things that you feel, not the things that I do
