The Devil and Me

In a small town shadow where the sun don't shine,

I met the devil, on a midnight climb,

He wore a coat of silence, eyes darker than coal,

Said, "Boy, I'm here to take your soul."

We danced in the moonlight, toes on a tightrope edge,

Whiskey breath mingled, promises he pledged,

His voice was a whisper, a cold serpent's kiss,

Left me yearning, aching for the abyss.
