Lyrics

Something Was Missing
   I went to a party
   last Saturday night.
All the old crowd was there,
   and they were feeling alright.
There was plenty of good food
   and good music, too.
   But something was missing,
   and that something was you.
   They were dancing and drinking
   and carrying on.
   Laughing and singing –
   it prob’ly lasted till dawn.
But I just kind of stood there –
   didn’t know what to do.
   ‘Cause something was missing,
   and that something was you.
   Well, the usual people
   made fools of themselves.
   And the usual women
looked like they needed some help.
   And I probably could have
   if I’d wanted to.
   But something was missing.
   and that something was you.
   So a little past midnight
   I came home alone,
and I looked at your picture,
and I picked up the phone.
   And I dialed your number
and let it ring until two.
You must have been sleeping . . .
   with somebody new.
