Programme you know, video shows
You know, some seem to be so upset about videos
'Cause it's tied, it's visually to the words
What kind of show would you produce?
Well, actually I think that uhm
The thing I dislike most about videos
Is the limited range of the pictoral vocabulary
That is deemed acceptable by people who show video on television
MTV is one of the worst offenders, because the style range
That they allow on there, seems to be compressed
In other words, artist tend to write songs which will then become videos
So they write songs that deal with words that are easily, easily translated
To those few acceptable pictures, that people who show videos will put on the air
So, does that give you a broad artistic horizon?
No, it sticks you in a box
You know, 'cause when you write your song
You have to say, "Okay the lips, the car door, the dove
The girl in the white dress"
You already got to figure out what the corny images are gonna be
Are they gonna be, in the video, that bothers me, I find it boring
When videos first came out, it was more intresting and there's more stuff going on
If I was gonna programme a show
I would have more of a variety of textures
And types of imagery involved in the stuff that was shown
Because the impact of a video is not like listening to a song anymore
Because better that fifty percent of what you experience is what you see
The song is almost negligible
So long that the rhythm is there, it helps to cut along
The song is, definately takes the secondary position to the pictures
