Building Us

December 2017
It was Lincoln logs and a hot wheels ford
Sittin cross legged on the hardwood floor
Stacked up high before It all came down
It was giant jenga
spilled my cup
She Put her hand on my shoulder
As my eyes welled up....
And she said
We’re still building
I’ll build you up
Brick by brick
Floor by floor
Bit by bit
Board by board
We’re still building
Building us
It was Sweet sixteen in my daddy’s Ford
I️ was so damn nervous outside your door
My knees were knockin’ as I️ shook your fathers hand
He looked me level, and said tell me son,
“What are your intentions, this daughter’s my only one”
And I said “hey, now...”
We’re still building
I’ll build you up
Brick by brick
Floor by floor
Bit by bit
Board by board
We’re still building
Building us
Well we made our bed and we still lie in it
Life flies by bout a mile a minute
We built this house & it’s become a home
Finger paintings up on the fridge
Pretty soon our kids will be havin kids, of their own
And now they’re they’re building
Now they’re building
I’ll build you up
Brick by brick
Floor by floor
Bit by bit
Board by board
We’re still building
Building us
