Better Part of Living

I am just my father's son

Wish no harm on anyone

Though it may not always show

I was raised to know what's right and wrong

Where I do and don't belong

To think fast and answer slow

The better part of living

Can't be measured out in pay

These days, a lot of take and not much giving

All this talk without much say

There's less traffic on the high road

It might get lonely, that's okay

Well, I'd best be on my way

Questions asked and options weighed

Hands are dealt and cards are played

And lady luck runs hot and cold

All is fair in fairytales

And going out of business sales

Sure as young turns into old

The better part of living

Can't be measured out in pay

And these days, a lot of take and not much giving

If what it's all about is coming out ahead

There'd be a lot more happy rich folks than there are

And if it mattered much what people think

Or what somebody said
