Oh my days
What will they say of me
When I’m sitting in a rocking chair
Much older than I used to be
Oh my love
What could I give to you
To take this time I have
And put it to some decent use
Cause I’ve been getting to the main point
But I’m looking for the grown up words
I’m standing in a burger joint
Trying to find my wallet first
I think about how I used to feel
And how I’ll never quite feel it again
Like coming ‘round on a great big wheel
You pass it by every now and then
Oh my god
You know who I ran into
This guy I sorta knew
We’d both aged a year or two
Cause these days I stop and think
I make a note of everything
The tile floor and the kitchen sink
To see if I can glean anything
Cause now I’m getting to the main point
But I’m looking for the grown up words
I’m standing in a cocktail joint
Trying hard to quench my thirst
I think about every friend I lost
I’ll never quite know why it ends
But for a while our paths did cross
Passing by in an evening wind
And in the day, I awake in the safety of our room
And meet my face at the ungodly hour of noon
And late at night at the drug store check out line
I take a deep breath and I count my dimes
It’s all fine
We’ve got time
Cause I don’t mind the reckoning
Or waiting here for the second thing
But sometimes I just cringe to think
How long I’ve been doing this thing
Oh my lord
What do we do this for
I’ve been waiting such a long time
I’ll be waiting such a long time more
Cause now I’m getting to the main point
Just trying to find the vernacular
It’s been the source of a great void
In a life spectacular
Driving slow by my old house
Look around but you don’t go in
It’s just a place in a different town
You pass it by every now and then
It’s like a wheel coming round and round
Passing by every now and then
