She was haloed round in kindness, I was nervous and alone
A stranger come into her world, the church that was her home
She'd been taught to love the stranger as only the suffering can
That Sunday morning set me free when Dinah held my hand
The service was about to start, it was my destiny
The only place, beside her, it was waiting there for me
Without a word, she reached across and gently took my hand
And the path I've travelled ever since that morning it began
She reached across three hundred years of suffering and pain
She reached across the great divide of the colour of our skins
When she reached across that empty pew, then I understood
That all the hate that meant to harm, the Lord had used for good
She was strong, and she was kind but gentle when she spoke her mind
Jesus is on the mainline, and you can tell Him what you want
By the force of her own gravity, her outrageous generosity
That morning I began to see that she'd adopted me!
She reached across three hundred years of suffering and pain
She reached across the great divide of the colour of our skins
When she reached across that empty pew, then I understood
That all the hate that meant to harm, the Lord had used for good
Life is made of moments, we don't always understand
Sometimes the meaning isn't clear, there's no specific plan
Each moment has been set in place before the world began
Like the time that Sunday morning when Dinah held my hand
Like the time that Sunday morning when Dinah held my hand
Jesus is on the mainline
Tell him what you want
Jesus is on the mainline
Tell him what you want
Jesus is on the mainline
Tell him what you want
Call him up and tell him what you want
If you need your sins forgiven
Tell Him what you want (eh)
If you need your sins forgiven
Tell Him what you want (tell Him what you want, yea)
If you need your sins forgiven
Tell Him what you want
Call Him up and tell Him what you want
Call Him up, call Him up
Tell Him what you want (oh, just call Him, yeah)
Call Him up, call Him up
Tell Him what you want (call Him)
Call Him up, call Him up
Tell Him what you want
Call Him up and tell Him what you want
Jesus is on the mainline
Tell Him what you want (yea-yeah)
Jesus is on the mainline
Tell Him what you want
Jesus is on the mainline
Tell Him what you want
Call Him up and tell Him what you want
