1975 gründete der Tontechniker Alan Parsons, bekannt für seine Arbeit am Pink-Floyd-Album The Dark Side of the Moon, die Band Alan Parsons Project. Zusammen mit seinem Partner Eric Woolfson bastelte Parsons komplexe Konzeptalben, die trotz anspruchsvoller Prog- und Art-Rock-Kompositionen auch verschiedene Single-Hits abwarfen ("Don't Answer Me", "Eye in the Sky"). Nach zehn Studioplatten löste sich die Band 1990 auf. The Alan Parsons Symphonic Project ist wie das Alan Parsons Live Project der Neunziger eine Wiederbelebung der Gruppe - ohne Woolfson, der 2009 starb, aber dafür mit 70-köpfigem Orchester, das die Songs der Band als Symphonic Rock spielt. 2016 erschien der Konzert-Mitschnitt Live in Colombia.
