Dionne Warwick ist eine jener Pop-Sängerinnen, die wahrscheinlich nur aus der Brill Building-Umgebung in der Zeit des Urban-Pop nach Elvis Presley und vor the Beatles in den frühen 1960er Jahren emporsteigen konnte. Es war jene Zeit, als sie sich mit den Songschreibern und Produzenten Burt Bacharach und Hal David zusammentat, die ungewöhnlich komplizierte Songs für ihre schmerzende aber dennoch abgeklärte Altstimme schrieben. Warwick wird unausweichlich mit diesen Songs assoziiert. Dennoch konnte sie sich nach Trennung von Bacharach und David eine eigene Karriere aufbauen, blieb ihrem Stil auch bei anderen unvergesslichen Aufnahmen treu, so dass Warwick in der Populärmusik noch immer eine herausragende Persönlichkeit ist. ~ William Ruhlmann
