Das britische Quartett The Kooks gründete sich in der Mitte des ersten Jahrzehnts nach der Jahrtausendwende und veröffentlichte 2005 bereits Singles für Virgin UK. "Eddie's Gun" und "Sofa Song" hielten sich wacker in den Singles-Charts des Vereinigten Königreichs, doch die romantische Verspieltheit des Titels "You Don't Love Me" verhalf der Band schließlich zu ihrem ersten Top-20-Hit überhaupt. The Kooks' Debütalbum Inside In/Inside Out erschien im Januar 2006. Im Frühjahr hatte die fünfte Single "Naive" Platz fünf erreicht. 2008 kehrten sie mitKonk zurück, von dem sie sich einen "gewaltigeren" Sound als dem ihres Debüts erhofften.
