Nicolas Jaar gehört zu den experimentierfreudigsten Dance-Produzenten der späten 2000er: Seine Downtempo-Nummern vermischen Spuren von Jazz, moderner Klassik und Minimal Techno. Jaar wurde 1990 in New York geboren und verbrachte seine frühe Kindheit in Chile. 2004 begann er, beeindruckt von äthiopischem Jazz und der Musik von Erik Satie, eigene Musik zu basteln. Vier Jahre später veröffentlichte er mit The Student seine erste EP. Sein Debütalbum Space Is Only Noise folgte 2011 und erntete für seine musikalische Vielfältigkeit begeisterte Kritiken, weshalb Jaar sogar mit Band auf Tour ging und nebenbei mit Dave Harrington das Seitenprojekt Darkside gründete. Nachdem er einen neuen Soundtrack für den Experimentalfilm Die Farbe des Granatapfels aufgenommen hatte, präsentierte Jaar 2016 sein zweites Album Sirens, das weitere Elemente wie Synth-Pop und Jungle in seinen Klangkosmos holte.
