1996 stieg LeAnn Rimes mit "Blue" aus dem Nichts hervor und zog sofort die Aufmerksamkeit der Countryfans ganz Amerikas auf sich. Das lag nicht nur daran, dass ihre Stimme erstaunliche Ähnlichkeit mit der Patsy Clines hatte, sondern an der Tatsache, dass Rimes erst 13 Jahre alt war. Nach zwei raschen Veröffentlichungen im Jahr 1997 (Unchained Melody: The Early Years und You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs) gab sie ihre richtige zweite LP Sittin' on Top of the World im Jahr 1998 heraus. Ihr drittes Album unter ihrem Namen erschien ein Jahr darauf und I Need You wurde im Jahr 2001 veröffentlicht. Im folgenden Jahr legte Rimes das Pop-orientierte Twisted Angel vor, kehrte aber mit This Woman (2005) zum Country zurück. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
