Die Songs der texanischen Country-Folk-Band Flatland Cavalry haben eine starke Roots-Tradition mit Akustikgitarre und Violine, setzen aber auch moderne Melodien und Rock-Rhythmen ein. Die Gruppe wurde 2012 von den langjährigen Freunden Cleto Cordero (Gesang, Gitarre) und Jason Albers (Schlagzeug) gegründet, die erste EP Come May (2015) wurde über Crowdfunding finanziert. Mit ihrem Debütalbum Humble Folks kam die Band schon auf Platz 17 der US-Americana-Charts. Nach ausgiebigen Tourneen folgte 2019 das zweite Album Homeland Insecurity, 2021 erschien die nächste Platte Welcome to Countryland. Mit der EP Songs to Keep You Warm präsentierten Flatland Cavalry vornehmlich Akustiksongs. Im Herbst 2023 wurde das vierte Album Wandering Star veröffentlicht.
