Artist Biography

Mehr als die meisten anderen Orchester wurde die Tschechische Philharmonie von den wechselnden politischen und wirtschaftlichen Verhältnissen in ihrem Heimatland beeinflusst. Von Anfang an hatte sie jedoch einen hohen künstlerischen Stellenwert. Das erste Konzert des Orchesters im Jahr 1896 wurde von dem großen tschechischen Komponisten Antonín Dvořák dirigiert, und 1908 leitete Gustav Mahler die Premiere seiner „7. Sinfonie“. Die Schlüsselfigur in der Entwicklung der Philharmonie war jedoch der tschechische Dirigent Václav Talich. Nach der Gründung der Tschechoslowakei im Jahr 1918 war Talich ab 1919 22 Jahre lang Chefdirigent und führte das Orchester zu internationalem Ruhm, der insbesondere auf seinem geschliffenen Klang und seiner lebendigen rhythmischen Flexibilität fußte. Der Zweite Weltkrieg brachte eine Reihe von Umwälzungen mit sich und die Philharmoniker wurden von den Nazibehörden gezwungen, in Deutschland zu spielen. Ein anderer herausragender tschechischer Dirigent, Rafael Kubelik, leitete die Philharmonie in der unmittelbaren Nachkriegszeit, bevor er 1948 nach der Übernahme der Regierung durch die Kommunisten überlief. Mit der Samtenen Revolution wurde 1989 die Demokratie wiederhergestellt. Seitdem hat die Philharmonie ihre finanzielle und künstlerische Position schrittweise wiedererlangt. Der gebürtige Russe Semjon Bytschkow ist seit 2018 Chefdirigent: Seine gefeierten Einspielungen der Sinfonien von Pjotr Iljitsch Tschaikowski und Gustav Mahler bestätigen den Status der Tschechischen Philharmonie als eines der führenden Orchester der Welt.
