Der experimentierfreudige Gitarrist Marc Ribot ist in einer Vielzahl von Stilen zuhause, von traditioneller Roots-Musik hin zu kantiger, freier Improvisation. Der 1954 in Newark geborene Musiker machte sich Ende der Siebziger als Teil der "Fake Jazz"-Gruppe The Lounge Lizards einen Namen und arbeitete bei mehreren Projekten mit Avantgarde-Komponist John Zorn zusammen. 1985 begann eine langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit Tom Waits, auch mit Elvis Costello und Produzent T-Bone Burnett spielte Ribot oft. Er hat zahlreiche Platten unter eigenem Namen oder mit Bands wie Ceramic Dog oder The Young Philadelphians veröffentlicht und mit unzähligen bekannten Musikern gespielt, darunter Marianne Faithfull, Laurie Anderson, Cibo Matto, Tricky und den Black Keys. Auf seinem Album Songs of Resistance 1942-2018 präsentierte Ribot politische Songs über Ungerechtigkeit und Tyrannei, um die Trump-Ära zu kommentieren.
