Die 1983 in Oklahoma geborene Musikerin sang schon mit drei Jahren in der Kirche. Sie studierte Kommunikation und Journalismus, bevor sie an der Fernsehsendung teilnahm. Ihre Debütsingle "Inside Your Heaven" wurde in Amerika zum ersten Nummer-1-Hit von vielen, ebenso wie ihr erstes Album Some Hearts (2005). Singles wie "Jesus, Take the Wheel", "Before He Cheats", "All-American Girl", "Cowboy Casanova" und "Good Girl" setzten ihre Erfolge fort. Auf dem dritten Album Play On (2009) fokussierte sie sich starker aufs Songwriting, mit Platten wie Blown Away (2012) oder Cry Pretty (2018) kamen stärkere Pop-Elemente in ihren Sound. 2020 erschien ihre Weihnachtsplatte My Gift, 2021 folgte das Gospel-Album My Savior.
