Der am 12. September 1976 in Georgia als Tauheed Epps geborene Rapper 2 Chainz wurde zunächst unter dem Namen Tity Boi als Mitglied der Atlanta-Rapcrew Playaz Circle bekannt, bevor er sich 2007 mit dem Mixtape Me Against the World an eine Solokarriere machte. Weitere Mixtapes folgten, und nur wenige Jahre später war 2 Chainz auf Tracks wie "Mercy" von Kanye West oder "Beez in the Trap" von Nicki Minaj zu hören. 2012 kam er bei Def Jam unter Vertrag und veröffentlichte dort sein offizielles Debütalbum Based on a T.R.U. Story, auf dem unter anderem Minaj und Lil Wayne als Feature-Gäste zu hören waren. Das Album erreichte Platz 1 der US-Charts und ebnete den Weg für das zwei Jahre später erschienene Zweitwerk B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time, das unter anderem Beiträge von Lil Wayne, Pharrell Williams und Fergie zu bieten hatte.
