Mit bewusst schrägen Tracks und spaciger Haltung wurde der experimentierfreudige Rapper Lil Yachty zunächst mit seinem "Bubblegum-Trap" bekannt, bevor er zum Aushängeschild des "Mumble Rap"-Stils wurde. Der 1997 in Georgia geborene Musiker erhielt mit seinem Song "Minnesota" (2015) und den Mixtapes Lil Boat und Summer Songs 2 (beide 2016) Aufmerksamkeit. Er war auf Tracks von DRAM, Charli XCX und Macklemore zu hören und erreichte mit den Alben Teenage Emotions (2017) und Lil Boat 2 (2018) schon die amerikanischen Top Ten. Mit den Platten Nuthin' 2 Prove (2019) und Lil Boat 3 (2020) wandelte sich sein Stil, aber sein respektloser Humor blieb stets intakt. Mit seinem fünften Album Let's Start Here schlug er den nächsten stilistischen Haken und präsentierte ein psychedelisches Soul-Album.
